OVERVIEW

Portsmouth FC’s affiliated charity, Pompey in the Community (PITC), have a new purpose-built stadium with the perfect opportunity to install greener measures for the local community. As a not-for-profit, keeping the power on at a stadium is no easy feat – using the floodlights, trimming the grass and maintaining the buildings all take a lot of energy. So, any chance to switch to greener energy and put money back into community projects would be the way forward.

The entire solar project of 358 panels is expected to cut energy costs of the site by more than 60% per year, saving 25 tonnes of carbon emissions and £61,000 in energy costs each year. It’s estimated that 122,570 kWh worth of power will be produced every year.

Plus, by designing the generation system whilst the stadium was being built, the charity was able to save money from the get-go.
